In addition to assisting with an immediate need, Funeraria del Angel University specializes in working with families to make final arrangements in advance. Grief support services

Our care for you and your family doesn't end after your loved one's service is over. We offer online grief resources accessible from anywhere. Families who choose us for their loved one's service also have access to the 24-hour Compassion Helpline^®.

For up to 13 months after planning a Dignity Memorial^® service, a family gets unlimited complimentary phone access to professionals trained in grief counseling any time day or night, for any reason. Any guest who attends a visitation, funeral service or burial gets the same access for up to three months.

History

Established by Lee C. Yocum, Funeraria del Angel University began as Arizona Mortuary on the northeast corner of Stone Avenue and 3rd Street in 1926. Lee owned a funeral home in Logan, Ohio, before he moved to Tucson with his wife, Verna, and their two young children.

When Lee died in 1939, Verna became president and director of Arizona Mortuary. During World War II, Davis Monthan Air Force Base and Tucson Veterans Hospital contracted with Arizona Mortuary and honored the funeral home with letters of commendation for outstanding service.

Growth and change

The funeral home’s reputation for excellence spread throughout Tucson, and Arizona Mortuary became a highly respected institution. In the 1960s, the business expanded, opening Arizona Mortuary Eastside Chapel east of town.

After Verna’s death in 1972, Verna’s son-in-law, Robert Long, took over as president of the funeral homes. In 1992, Arizona Mortuary joined the Dignity Memorial network. At that time, the Eastside Chapel was closed, but other funeral businesses in the area joined the network, including what are now known as East Lawn Palms Mortuary and Desert Rose Heather Cremation and Burial.
